Unidentified Flying Object – UFO. Patrons at the Stanthorpe Golf Course were stunned on Saturday afternoon by a UFO. The Object landed just short of the first green. Racing to the site it was discovered to be none other than Nathan Stibbard’s golf ball which he had driven from the first tee. It was a pleasure to watch Nathan drive the ball so well. However, for the rest of his game the pleasure somehow evaporated. In fact, it could be said that Nathan is a three-putt specialist.
And there was another Unidentified Flying Object on the course on Saturday. Teenager, Coen Cook, a year 11 student, who has recently taken up golf and has been coming to the course after school to practice. Coen is new to the Club. On Saturday this new UFO played his first ever game, first ever competition AND WON! Coen we are all so proud of you. Keep up the good work.
The day’s play was the Monthly Medal (stroke event), including putting competition and was sponsored by Pursehouse Rural. Pursehouse’s gun employee, and gun golfer, Mark McCosker was present to talk about the Pursehouse Rural story and their commitment to the welfare of the Stanthorpe Community and of their sponsorship, not only of golf but of other organisations in Stanthorpe. Thank you Pursehouse.
Men’s golf. After the UFO of Coen Cook, came the runner up, Rod Paye. Pin Shots went to Matt Burgess, Matt Waterworth, Keith Jones, Reno Piovesan and Hayden Smith. The best gross score went to Matt Burgess with 74 off the stick and Matt won the putting as well with 26 putts. Well done to all.
Ladies’ golf. Congratulation to Neta Thouard! We couldn’t have a more worthy winner of the Monthly Medal. Neta has done so much for the club in times past and is still active though often out of town. So, Saturday was the only Monthly Medal Neta has competed in this year, making Neta was another UFO in the Ladies Comp. Neta won on a count back from Lynette Ludlow. Pin Shots went to Lynette Ludlow, Nikki Waterworth, Lisa Stuart and Jessie Walker, a visitor with her husband Daryl, from Cairns. Putting was a three-way tie between Nikki Waterworth, Lynette Ludlow and Lisa Stuart. The best gross went to Lisa Stuart (92). Well done ladies.
Next Saturday’s Competition will be sponsored by Stanthorpe Quality Meats.
