Saturday’s golf was on a beautiful autumn day with a light breeze and enjoyable for all. Regrettably this Writer was unable to be present on the day and is unable to report any quirky stories of interest. However, it should be noted that since Covid, golf has had a renaissance, and its popularity Australia wide has surged. Stanthorpe is no exception. The Stanthorpe Club is very friendly and ready to welcome all comers at all stages to enjoy this ancient and mostly enjoyable game.
Todd Beckett’s Pest Control was Saturday’s sponsor. We thank Beckett’s Pest Control for the day’s prizes. Todd is a valued member of the Club as a Director, a Committee Member, a Sponsor and a fairly good golfer most of the time. The Day’s play was a Monthly Medal (Single Stroke and Putting) and was the first round of the Pike Trophy.
Results: Ladies, Congratulations to Lynette Ludlow on a keen 72 nett. Mandy Benussi was hot on Lynette’s heels with 73 pipping Helen Jones on a count back. Pro Pins and Pins to Linda Kelly Mandy Benussi (x2) and Lisa Stuart (x2).
Men’s Results: Congratulations to Chook Hendry. Chook is one of those many who recently took up or returned to the game and here he is as a winner. Runner up was Randall Burgin (another Newbie) and third to Lyle Bryant (an Oldie). Pins and Pro Pins to Keith Jones, Len Leigh, Nathan Stibbard, Ron Batterham and ‘Ivan the Terrible’ (an ancient Viking) Juriss (x2).
Friday the 7th from 4pm onward is the farewell to Steve and Mei Bell.
Next week's sponsor is Steve and Sandy Kay. The Day’s play will be a single stroke and the second round of the Pike Trophy.
We also have Maureen Bates Day Sporters on Sunday 16th of March. Time sheet for this is located outside the clubhouse. It is a 9-hole event. 2 Ball Ambrose. Shotgun start at 9am.
