Saturday was a beautiful day for golf and was made all the more illustrious by the handsome sponsors (only kidding), affectionately known as ‘Dad’s Army’ (Lyle Bryant, Barry Hughes, Angelo Maugeri and Aaron Simmers)
However, a ripple of concern spread throughout the assembled players before the high noon, shot gun, start to the day’s play - for word had spread that the Ladies Vice Captain had partnered with the Men’s Vice Captain for the Four Ball Best Ball (mixed) Competition. This added up to ‘Double Vice’, and as all golfers know, Vice and more Vice can add up to a very good score and a ‘good’ scorer will beat a good golfer any day. Well, after the day’s game and to the relief of all, the Two Vices put in an honest scorecard and were nowhere near the cigar end of the leaderboard. There were, however, some excellent scores recorded.
Rick Goodrich and Hamish Adam won the day on 45 Stableford points. Congratulations. They were followed up by Keith Jones and Richard Reardon on 43. The beloved Captain, Brad Silver, was so impressed with the good scores that he gave Run Down Vouchers to players over 40 Stableford points: Phil and Eli Mihulka, AJ Grasso and Lochlan Hendry, Jason Ward and Brad Silver.
Men’s Approach Shots (on three holes) all went to Hamish Adam. Dear Readers – this is very impressive golf. The Men’s Pin shots: Matt Waterworth (by 2!) and Nathan Stibbard.
Ladies Approach Shots: Nikki Waterworth, Mei Bell, Lorraine Evans and Linda Kelly.
This Thursday is the Boxing Day Classic in support of the Stanthorpe Junior Rugby League. Please call the club to register. Next Saturday 28th, is the Hogmanay Howler Competition. It’s the last game of the year. Come with some Scottish Tartan and enjoy winding up 2024.
