Wearied by a wet week the willing golfers fronted the sodden fairways. This day of threatening thunder and downpour sorted the serious from the sooks! Congratulations to everyone who turned up on Saturday despite the dire weather forecast. The afternoon turned out to be delightful and the recently cored greens were playable … just. The Day’s Play was sponsored by two club favourites Johnie Green and Brendan McMillan. Johnie and Brendan are very generous and much appreciated.
It may be the case that this Writer may be responsible for a certain level of sledging on occasion. However, he entered a master class when he was partnered to play the Four Ball Best Ball competition with Rino Piovensan. Rino is a class act, generously encouraging the other team to keep one's head down, to try and stay on the fairway, to graciously point out how far the others have missed the green. It didn’t stop! And the so- called hapless hackers, Jarrod and Megsie Irwin were really doing quite well.
Results; Congratulations to the winners with a healthy lead, Rino Piovensan and Greg Fraser on 47 Stableford points. Runner’s up were Todd Beckett and Barry Jones with 41 on a count back. In third place came Bruce Green and Ron Hoff also on 41 points. The Rundown went to Neta and Viv Thouard, Ivan Juris and Wes Smith, Rod Paye and mark Richards, Rick Goodrich and Matt McArthur. Finally, commiserations to Laraine Gurnett and Ray Thorn who played more golf than anyone else.
Pins and Pro Pins for the Ladies went to Nikki Waterworth, Lynette Ludlow and Neta Thouard. And for the men’s nearest the pin: Ivan Juriss, Len Leigh, Todd Beckett. And Pro Pins to: Wes Smith, Keith Jones and Todd Beckett.
Next Weekend will be sponsored by Richard Reardon. Richard is off to the USA this week to join in the happy throng at the Master’s Golf Tournament. Richard’s son, Luke, is the caddy for Jason Day. We wish Richard all the best. Next Saturday is the monthly medal, stroke and putting.
