It was a magnificent day in the highlands with a cool breeze keeping the golfers at the perfect temperature. We were in the ‘Goldilocks Zone’ – not too hot, not too cold. Most Golfers, for most of the day, scored in the ‘Goldilocks Zone’. However, there were some hot players and regrettably some cold players: winners and losers.
One of the many good things about the Granite Belt is the level of community support for community projects and sporting clubs. The Golf Club is no exception. The day’s sponsorship was Pooles Produce. Pooles Produce have supported the Club for many years, and we are so grateful to them and acknowledge the great benefit they have been to the Granite Belt over generations. But wait, there’s more: Saturday also witnessed the final of the coveted ‘Monthly Medal’. The women’s sponsor for this competition was Tom and Trish Fittock and we thank them very much. The men’s Monthly Medal final was sponsored by the Carnell family and included the Roy Carnell trophy. Roy was one of the pillars of the Club for many years and we have a continuing debt of gratitude to Roy and the Carnell family.
The hot golfers who left the ‘Goldilocks golfers’ behind, were-
Women: Nikki Waterworth and Helen Jones. The winner of the Monthly Medal competition was also Nikki Waterworth. Best Gross score was Lisa Stuart. Best Putting score was Lynette Ludlow. Pin Shots to Nikki Waterworth, Lorraine Evans Lisa Stuart, Linda Kelly and Lynette Ludlow.
The hot Men golfers were Phil Mihulka and Wesley Smith. The winner of the Monthly Medal competition was Angelo Maugeri. Best Gross score was Scott Constable. Best putting was a draw between Angelo Maugeri and Mark McCosker (both on 27). Pin Shots to Barry Hughes, Keith Jones, Richard Reardon (x2) Coen Cook and Robert Reeves.
So much for the ‘hot’ players. There were unfortunately some Golfers who were ‘cold’. We have, for readers, pictorial evidence of how one player failed to reach the ‘Goldilocks Zone.’ And it should be added that the Writer of this column is the owner of the pictured ball. One might even say that his golf was ‘garbage’. Regardless of this ‘series of unfortunate events’, a great day was had by all and congratulations to the hot winners.
