Plenty of golf at Stanthorpe last weekend with a fourball stableford on Saturday sponsored by Biz and Jeff Ihle, followed by the Black Toyota sponsored 3 ball ambrose on Sunday. The two days of golf events have been held now for well over 20 years and we thank the sponsors for their continued golf promotion as well as the many visiting golfers who travel to play in the events.

Mick O’Brien and Simon Shannon teamed up for the Saturday fourball and returned the best score to win the event, although by a countback. They continued their excellent form into Sunday, with Keith Allen being the added player in the ambrose event to notch up another win, making it a successful weekend for them.

O’Brien and Shannon returned 44 points in the stableford event, along with Mark and Racheal Hendry on the same score. The countback was very close, a win to O’Brien and Shannon with the Hendry’s settling for runner up, the difference being one shot.

In the run down, Keith Jones and playing partner, Shaneen McLellan collected the first run down prizes with a score of 42 points. All teams with 40 and better points collected in the run down.

Sunday’s 3 person ambrose event saw the same team team of O’Brien and Shannon with Keith Allen added to the team to return a nett score of 59 after they posted a gross score of 66, which again was the winning score. Their round included 8 birdies and a couple of bogies, 35 out and back in 31. Again, they proved a winning combination.

The team of Stephen Kay, Michael Lane and Damon Harris returned a nett 61 which was enough to secure runner up. They managed to record 4 birdies and a team eagle at the 6th hole. Third place went to Alex, Ken and Vicky from the Kilcoy group with a score of 61 1/3. They also recorded a team eagle at the 6th hole.

The ladies only prize went to the team of Lorraine Gurnett, Neta Thouard and Lynette Ludlow after they held off the other teams by one stroke to secure the prize.

Long drives were won by Michael Thompson for the men’s and Lyn Ludlow for the ladies. Pin shots were claimed by Brendon Barker, Scott Hauritz, Will Tetzloff, Lorraine Gurnett and Lynette Ludlow.

In upcoming events, the club championships are due and will commence on Saturday 15 May and will be played over two weekends, Saturday and Sunday for the four rounds.

Next Saturday at the club it is back to usual with the event being an individual stableford and is sponsored by lady members, Kay Webb, Linda Kelly and Margie Locke. All players are reminded that the time sheet reverts to the winter period and tee off from 11.00 am. The time sheet is on the board at the club.

(ps. No Sporters golf last Sunday due to running of ambrose event)
