Stanthorpe Golf

Play was an individual stroke event, the second round of three for the Pike Trophy. Sponsors for the day were club members, Stephen and Sandy Kay, and the club thanks them for putting up the prizes for the day. Visiting golfers from the API also joined the locals players in the day’s event.

David Burgess had the best round for the men, leading in both the gross score and the nett score. He completed the round in 75 giving him a nett score of 71 on the day. Kev Rowling bounced back from a dismal round the previous week to return a nett 72 and take the runner up prize after a countback with Santo Cavallaro, also with nett 72. Santo settled for a run down prize.

Others to feature in the run down were Max Hunter, Nathan Stibbard and Eric Ree, all with nett 73.

The ladies event was won by Lisa Stuart with a nett 72. Lisa also managed to return the lowest gross score for the ladies, 95 for the round, the double for the day. Helen Jones collected runner up prize for the ladies with a nett 78.

In run down stakes, Jennifer Sparkes and Jenny Barling (Wynnum GC) both left with a prize after they returned a nett 79.

Being the second of three rounds for the Pike Trophy, some players have now put themselves in a good position to win the Trophy. After two rounds, any player with a nett score in the 140’s looks a good chance. For the ladies, any nett score in the 150’s looks promising. With one more round to complete the event, the win is still up for grabs.

Builder’s golf day on Friday saw some 71 players vying for top honours in a 3 ball ambrose event sponsored by Howard Trade Centre. Top team on the day was Greg Fraser, Troy Keir and Adrian Beesley. Between them, they recorded 12 birdies on the day which put them in the winning position. David St John, Chris Fittock and Cameron Turner also had a good day, recording 7 birdies for their round to secure runner up. Interesting to note that Beesley and Turner started their golf as juniors at Stanthorpe.

Next Saturday will be the final round for the Pike Trophy, so an individual stroke event. The day will be sponsored by club member, Mark McCosker. Mark’s sponsored day includes play for the Nuffield Cup and will be played in conjunction with the third round for the Pike Trophy. Tee off for this event will be from 11.30 am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
