Stanthorpe golfers played a single stableford event last Saturday 15 April, the day sponsored by Go Vita of Stanthorpe and thanks to John Bylicki for the day and presenting the prizes at the end of the day.

A good result for David Burgess, following his win last week, another good round to post the best score of 39 points and the win on the day. Junior member, Hamish Adam, continued his good form of late with another good round of 38 points to tie up runner up position.

Ladies event was won by Lyn Ludlow and she was very pleased to accept the winning prize, as well as the special extra of least number of putts for the round with 25 needed. Mandy Benussi also posted a good result of 35 points to secure runner up for the ladies.

A sad but amusing incident which occurred on the day concerned one golfer who is often seen at the course during the week practising and one would think knew the difference between solid ground and water. The player spotted a lone ball lying in the waterhole on what he thought was solid ground and decided to go and retrieve the said item. He soon discovered that under the grass was not solid soil but plenty of water. After sinking almost to his chest, he decided it was not such a good idea after all. Pity no one had a camera on hand at the time. Not daunted by the situation, the player continued his round to completion but disappeared from the clubhouse very quickly after the game.

For others who did receive a prize at the par three holes, Barry Hughes collected at 3, Scott Constable at 12 and 17 for the men was not claimed. Fiona Kelly, Mei Bell and Helen Jones each collected for the ladies. Pro-pins went to Hamish Adam at 1/10, Alan Kerr at 5/14 and Brendan Barker at 9/18.

An encouragement award went to Richard Reardon for his not a lot of points on the day and others were rewarded with a ball for a run up on the day. In the run down, a ball for scores of 34 points and better for the men and 31 points for the ladies.

Stanthorpe’s long weekend of golf is nearly here, Saturday 29 being a four ball with Kilcoy players on the way followed by the Black Toyota day on Sunday 30, a three person ambrose event. The time sheets have been posted and they usually fill up quickly.

This Saturday is also a 4BBB stableford sponsored by the RSL Sub Branch, the time sheet is on the board at the club.
