Last Saturday’s event was a single stableford sponsored by Len and Pauline Leigh. Unfortunately, Len and Pauline were not able to attend on the day but we do thank them for the prizes of the day.
Recent showers have improved the fairways and with a good grass cover, not quite as much run out and some found the going tough. Not so for the men’s winner, Keith Barnett, with a returned score of 37 points for the round, the only player to score under handicap on the day. Keith has been noticed around the course of late with either a line trimmer or his clubs, either taming the rough or refining his game. Either way it paid off, he did well and deserved the win.
Mike McAuliffe and Angelo Maugeri also had good rounds, both returning 36 points. The countback was in favour of Mike by one point, giving him the runner up prize. Angelo settled for a run down along with Terry Roser (35) and Alan Kerr (35). With a host of players on 34 points, the decision was made to have a run up, much to the pleasure of Cal Smith and Aaron Simmers who both managed to achieve 21 points for their day.
The ladies’ event was won by Neta Thouard with 32 points. This is the fourth time in four events that Neta has featured in the prize winners since back on the course. Must have been at some golf academy when away.
Runner up went to Kay Webb with 27 points after the countback was applied. Others on 27 points were Margie Locke and Lyn Ludlow who collected in the run down. Pleasing to see Edith Stewart on the course last Saturday. Edith has been battling a few injuries of late so a great effort to get back on the fairways. Unfortunately, the heavy course conditions ended with Edith retiring after nine holes. Always next week for Edith.
Next Saturday is 4BBB stableford, the David Townsend Memorial golf Day. David was a long term member of the club, a keen golfer and sportsman and was responsible for establishing mid week golf competition at the club. The day will be sponsored by the RSL midweek golfers. The day will be a shot gun start at 12.00 noon and registration by 11.30 am would be appreciated to allow the starter to determine tee positions. Time sheet is on the board.
